From AVETMISS to the VET Information Standard: Reporting Changes

Australia's national VET data reporting arrangements are transitioning from AVETMISS to the VET Information Standard through the VET Data Streamlining program. The applicable standard and reporting process can depend on collection type, reporting period and transition arrangements, so providers should check the current instructions before preparing a submission.

What providers should check

  1. Confirm which collection and reporting channel applies to your organisation and training activity.
  2. Review the current VET Information Standard version, data specifications and effective dates published by NCVER.
  3. Check state or territory requirements where they apply; local collection rules may add detail.
  4. Ask your student management system provider which data standards, exports and transition dates their product supports.
  5. Validate records against the official validation rules before submitting, and keep evidence of corrections.

Plan the transition

Map the data you collect today to the fields required by the applicable standard. Pay attention to classification changes, new identifiers, validation rules and reporting deadlines. Test exports with representative records before a live reporting period, and confirm any required product updates with your software provider.
